A newcomer to the Cornish culinary scene, Chapter 1 is already making a name for itself. Bringing fine dining to the heart of Newquay, Chapter 1 is the brainchild of talented chef Tom Mackins.
After working in quality restaurants up and down the country, Tom is now making a splash with this, his first venture into the restaurant business.
Located in the middle of Newquay, this superb restaurant is a quiet haven, yet is also handily located for transport links and local attractions.
Head out onto the South West coastal path to take in the stunning Cornish coastline, or feel the sand between your toes on the Great Western Beach before heading over to sample some of the best dishes Newquay has to offer at Chapter 1.
Relax with a drink in hand in the contemporary surroundings and peruse the impressive menu packed with exciting and tempting dishes.
Inspired by Cornwall’s natural bounty, Tom’s menus are a love letter to local produce and mix international flavours with traditional techniques. Quality is paramount here; ingredients are sourced from trusted suppliers such as Flying Fish, Harbour Brewing and Brian Etherington Meat Co.
The passionate team never settles for second best, with everything from the decor to the stunning presentation of the dishes given the utmost attention.
However beautiful the dishes are, it is evident that this is food to please the tastebuds, not just the eyes.
For a taste of Cornwall’s best seafood, start with the likes of torched mackerel with beetroot, pickled ginger, acorns and sake dressing and follow with soy-marinated sea trout with squash, cashews, ginger and miso.
From the land, the fallow deer with chocolate, turnip, sprouts and burnt onion is particularly delightful.
Tom’s desserts are simply sublime; from mille-feuille with pickled blackberries, pistachio, pear and cardamom to the gold bar, filled with salted caramel and served with white chocolate mousse.
A gastronomic delight, Chapter 1 will no doubt continue to garner critical acclaim and we eagerly await the next chapter in its culinary story.

A PASSION FOR FOOD DELIVERED IN EVERY DISH.
After starting his career at a young age, Tom soon realised that if he was going to make it in the industry then he would have to work for the best.
Born in Wiltshire in 1990, Tom spent the beginning of his life in South Wales where his love for the countryside was grown.
In 2004 Tom took up his first position as a kitchen porter and soon found a new love “The Kitchen”
Knowing full well that if he was to succeed as a chef it wouldn’t be easy, so Tom traveled up and down the country working for some of the best restaurants and most respected hotels.
In 2011 Tom moved to Cornwall to work for the well respected Kevin Viner. Since then he has worked along side some of the best chefs the county has to offer.
Now in 2016 with the help of family and friends Tom is risking everything and going it alone with Chapter 1.
