I visited the Journeyman for the first time on Sunday. I ate a lamb curry with nan bread, rice and a couple of side dishes. without a doubt this was the best curry, by far, that I have had outside India. All the food is cooked to order and we were asked what strength we liked the curry, and it appeared as ordered.
The use of spice was superb, producing a wonderful experience.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes curry.

Like having fish and chips and a sunday roast all in one! Best fish and chips we have ever had. Only downside was the overly expensive tartare sauce and the excessively garlicy mayonnaise... Perhaps a horseradish mayonnaise would be an interesting new twist.

The best welcome, the best food and the best experience ever! My new husband and I visited Psul Ainsworth @ No 6 while on our honeymoon. It's a beautifully converted Victorian house with several different rooms. We were sat by the kitchen which was great as Paul Ainsworth was cooking that day. I had the pollock and Gary had the ox cheek. both of which were fantastic - we were competing for who had the best meal! The staff were friendly and relaxed but very efficient. Do not leave this restaurant without trying the dessert. To die for! We had a sharing platter with several different puds - each one was excellent and a sheer delight. The icing on the cake however was when Paul not only gave us a signed menu as he knew we were on honeymoon but invited us into the kitchen for a chat and photo's. He is a lovely guy and a great chef. Look out Rick Stein! Thanks to everyone at No 6.

Revisited here after a gap of 20 years. remembered it as the best place in the world for it's peas, nothing has evere compared to "Padstow Peas". There has been little change and the meals we had were delightful. All home cooked and real fresh veg, carrots meeting the great "pea" standard. I had the homemade steak and tribute pie which was like my mom used to make, and full of chunks of meat. All piping hot and plenty of chips. My husband had thee gammon with pinapple and egg and of course the "padstow Peas".
A truly great feed, so much so we were unable to have our evening meal as still full.Great Value

On February 20, 2011 i gave my husband a surprise birthday treat here in Harbour Restaurant. He did not know anything about it. I called the restaurant a few days before went there and requested them to booked us a table for two with a view of the Camel Estuary and the Padstow Harbour and if they can arrange a birthday cake with candles in it. We were a bit late when we arrive at the restaurant (really sorry for that) coz i have difficulty giving my husband the direction without giving away the place where we are going. Thank God we arrive only a few minutes late. We ordered and had eaten our sumptuous starters and main meal. Then i excuse myself and told my husband i'd go to the ladies room but i went to talk to the waiter to tell her to just take our order of dessert but instead of giving our order she will bring the cake with all the candles litghted. So i went back to our table and in a few minutes the waiter came with the cake and everyone including all the other guest at the hotel who are dining are all singing happy birthday. My husband said "ohh there is also someone celebrating his birthday just like me". He was sooo surprise, shocked and embarrassed coz it was him they are singing for and the cake was for him. They gave the cake for him to blow the candles and i am really touch coz he is teary eyed. He had never experienced something like this in his entire life. I am really thankful to all the staff and chefs of the restaurant for the delicious meal, all their kindness and hospitality. Their service is really great. I owe you bigtime for making my husband feel special on his birthday. Thank you!!!

Great atmosphere, warm welcome and delicious food. We were entertaining friends, one of whom is a celiac. We had advised the restaurant when making the booking, and they welcomed us with basket of bread specially prepared for a celiac - what a welcome! The staff were fully briefed on what our friend could have from the menu and discussed all the dishes with him in full. This ensured we had a trouble-free evening, and a delicious meal as well. Fal River chilli mussels were big and juicy, the steak was a winner and only the men could managed a pudding. Well done to Rick & Jill for providing a really good value place to eat in such comfortable surroundings and with such well-trained staff.

We visited The Journeyman on Saturday on 14/11/09. The food was wonderful, both the Oriental & the English & it worked well mixing styles during various courses. The ambience and service were very good. We were delighted at the reasonable bill at the end of the evening including a reasonably priced very good red wine. We wished we lived closer as we would visit this restaurant on a regular basis but we tell friends about when they visit this part of Cornwall. Thank you we enjoyed our evening !

In search of a good curry in the Padstow area? Let me point you in the direction of The Journeyman near St Issey, set in the unique venue of an old mill. We recently enjoyed a great family meal there - the curries were delicious! In particular, the lamb shashlik was outstanding - both tender and flavourful. It was also great to have such a wide choice of types of food for those who aren't such fans of Indian cuisine. Complements to the chef!

My friend and I visited the Seven Bays Bistro on the last night of our holiday at the beginning of September. We had a lovely evening.

The restaurant decor was inviting and the ambiance very pleasant, as were the people serving us. A good start. It got better. We could not fault the meal, it was delicious. I started with the mushrooms - very tasty. Followed by steak - cooked to perfection, and a shared scrumptious pudding, all washed down with a nice well rounded tasting bottle of house red wine. What more could anyone ask for?

We wish we had booked to eat at the Seven Bays on the second day of our holiday instead of going to Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant in Padstow. My friend and I had waited approximately eight years to eat there, and wished we had not. The food was very ordinary, to say the least, and we did not feel we were particularly well served or that there was much atmosphere. Very disappointing.

We look forward to eating at Seven Bays Bistro in September 2010.

Just back from Treyarnon- every year for 50 years. Always looking for good food- eaten from Bude to Truro. Some great, some ghastly:good and bad pubs. Great restaurant in Padstein, obviously, but pricy and parking problems. Tend to concentrate on St Merryn centre of '7 bays for 7 days'. This year devastated- closure of two good restaurants. Tried our luck at 7 Days Bistro- twice! Brilliant. Charming owner- Sue? (lost card and can't remember surname).Good service: very good food- both evenings and most important - VERY REASONABLE PRICES!!! Many thanks. Well done Sue - keep it up: 7 Bays needs 7 Bays Bistro.

I booked this venue for my wife’s birthday meal on Saturday the 4th April. I did this based purely on the local reputation and also on the many positive reviews I came across on the internet. We arrived at this most beautiful of locations a little early but we were welcomed in immediately and seated at our preferred table. The service was warming and personal which was a very welcome change to the usual “cattle market” approach from the larger restaurant chains.
We settled down to a lovely glass of wine whilst we decided on our food for the evening. As a starter, I ordered the “sizzling Chicken Tikka Platter” and my wife had the “Soup of the Day” which was Leek and Potato. Both starters were brought out in what felt like less than ten minutes!
My Chicken Tikka was superb. The dish was presented on a sizzling skillet with a side of fresh salad with a balsamic glaze and a separate helping of a refreshing mint Raita. Overall, a huge thumbs up. Again, my wife’s choice of the Leek and Potato soup seemed to be a good one as she managed to devour the rather generous serving.
On to the mains.....
I chose what was labelled on the menu as “our most popular curry”. This was the Nepalese Lamb and Wild Garlic curry. It sounded lovely from the in depth description on the menu and upon ordering, I was offered a choice of heat, which was a nice touch. My wife ordered the Salmon steaks with fresh vegetables. The diversity of the menu paid dividends for us both!
Our mains followed in less than 20 minutes, which considering that they are cooked freshly is not a long time to wait. Upon serving, we were welcomed by two delightfully presented plates of food. My curry arrived in an authentic iron Balti dish and was bubbling away nicely! The curry was perfect for me. To say it’s the best curry I have ever tasted would be an understatement, it was quite simply one of the best meals I have ever had! The chef’s skill in attaining the diversity of flavours was admirable, especially considering that he is an English chef.
Our overall experience cannot be underestimated. I was overjoyed that the restaurant had not only lived up to my high expectations but far exceeded them. I would whole heartedly recommend the Journeyman to anyone who wants a change from the normal eatery. This place is a cut above the rest.

Thanks to the team at the Journeyman. We shall be booking again soon.

It was our 37th wedding anniversary and quite by chance Margot's had a spare table for two due to a cancellation. (We later learned that normally you have to book a table weeks in advance). Although small, the atmosphere was excellent as was the friendly, courteous service. The food was absolutely exquisite and the fish (we chose cod) was cooked to perfection. When I first saw the menu here I thought no way can this all be cooked fresh, but hat's off to them it is! Had a good old chat to the chef / owner who's obviously learned his craft overseas and far away, I used to work in a well known Indian restaurant in Soho but have never tasted curries this good, and my partner had a great steak, have never been anywhere with this range of dishes and although we only had a small sample the rest of the diners seemed extremely happy, what a great idea wish you were at the end of my street! For anyone thinking of drining past this place to get to any of padstow's better known eateries my advice would be don't! Having been in Cornwall for two weeks I'd gotten very tired of the conveyer belt approach to dining most places have in the season, was nice to find somewhere very relaxed with a single sitting and be treated like a customer not cattle. What a great find. This place is the ultimate off the beaten track venue, and judging by the crowd last Saturday fast becoming one of Cornwall's popular "secrets" If there's a wider menu anywhere in the country I've not seen it my curry was to die for and Martin's Panang Duck was easily as good as any food we've had in Thailand. This is going to be the next big thing in Cornwall - you heard it here first! Have already booked for our visit in October.

It was very amusing the night we went as an Indian couple were having a lot of trouble believing the chef was English so good were the curries! 10/10 will be back in September for my fix.

Visited here for the second year running at Easter and was not disappointed. Great food and a real buzz to the place on the Friday we visited, seemed a lot busier than last year. Nepalese lamb was close to being the best curry I've had and my wife's Thai duck was a lot better tasting than our local Thai restaurant in Birmingham. Can't praise this place too highly and at £46 for two with wine we'll be back first chance we get. Incidentally the owner of our B&B has promoted the restaurant to his number one place to visit based on his customer's comments, a good recommendation given the more famous local competition, and one we agree with fully.

Take the time to go to this place. I would say it is worth going to cornwall for this restaurant. Your experience begins with a warm welcome for Molly the hostess, after you ahve chosen your meal you are treated to an amuse bouche - on this occasion it was pate of foie gras with a sauternes and rhubarb jelly, with hand made flat breads and goats cheese stuffed olives. I could stop there and meal would already be sublime. I had the scallops with blackpudding and my husband cose the mushroom risotto with truffles - each meal perfect in it's own right. I followed with the cheek and belly of pork, Hubby choosing the Sea bream with aubergine piperade. We shared a side order of mashed potato - I didn't realise it was possible to make it that good!!!! My husband decided not to go for a pudding but I went for the Apple. But before this arrived we were once again treated this time to 2 mini pudding each - a large spoonfull of bread and butter pud which had an almost creme brulee like topping and a pink grapefruit sorbet spiked with space candy - yes I am serious. Space candy the stuf that pops in your mouth. Who'd have thought it - by far the best sorbet I have ever had. I was almost bursting when my pudding proper arrived - an apple tarte tatin with a prune creme brulee and a pear and blue ceese ice cream - superb. we drank a very nice merlot with dinner and I would recommend the pansal de calas chilled red pudding wine. a final coffee was accompanied by home made chocolate truffles. The perfect end to a perfect meal. Not a cheap dinning option by any means but worth every penny!

We went to the Journeyman Restaurant twice on our recent trip to Cornwall and had some excellent food there. I had the steak italienne which was gorgeous and my husband had the beef wellington which he also said was excellent. Next time my husband had the chicken madras which he said was good but not hot enough so the chef sent him out some extra chillies and I had the sweet and sour chicken which was good but not as good as the steak! Not much choice for desert unfortunately though with just 4 choices I did not like and then some ice creams. But we would certainly recommed this restaurant and a good idea to book as it is tiny.

Went here on the recommendation of the owners of the hotel we were staying at "Wherever else you go, try here first", got the last table on a Tuesday which says a lot. Excellent food and service, love the fact there's only one sitting, was refreshingly nice not to be hurried. Friendly service and probably the best menu selection of any restaurant I've ever been to. We both struggled to choose but the end result was well worth it, I went for Thai red curry with King prawns which was delicious Jan had scrumpy pork and liked it so much she convinced the chef to give her the recipe which he willingly did! A great night, and much better value than a lot of other Padstow places; we're going back next week before going home, can't wait.

Beautiful fusion restauarant in an old converted mill. Four of us went to this restaurant recently whilst holidaying in cornwall. Two of us had indian meals - chicken tikka masala, nepalese lamb and one had thai duck curry the fourth person had a beef wellington. Considering the variety of meals each meal was fantastic, tasty and authentic. I like my curries quite spicy so it was great that I could choose the heat that I wanted my curry to be according to the number of chillies on the menu. The starters were fab too. Thai fishcakes for two of us, Lamb kebabs and pasta for the fourth person. The meals were reasonably priced and there was a great selection of wines and beers too. Definately worth a visit if you are in Cornwall on holiday.
