Have visited this restaurant on a couple of occasions and experienced excellent food both times. Well worth a visit if you're in the area..Worth pre booking and requesting a table in the room next to the river which is gorgeous. Highly recommended.

On our walk form Tintagel to Boscastle we decided that a light lunch and a little drink would be in order, lucky for us we happened upon the Riverside Restaurant and since they have a dog friendly policy we went in for their “Soup and a Sandwich” deal for £6….. there is no way I can compliment the establishment enough on their absolutely delicious soup and sandwich. To top this off the service was with a genuine smile.

I had dinner at the Riverside Inn on Saturday 24 March 2012 and I was so impressed by the place that I thought I'd write a review.

When I phoned to book, I mentioned that I would be dining on my own and asked if that would be a problem, but the lady I spoke to assured me that would be fine. That was commendable as it was a Saturday night and some restaurants prefer not to accept bookings for one diner over weekends, so I was very impressed, especially as it's not a large restaurant .

It's not always fun eating out on one's own but I was given a discreet table for two and was well looked after by the friendly staff from the moment I walked in.

I had a starter followed by a fish dish for my main course and both were delicious. The meal was complemented by a glass of nice crisp muscadet. It's not often restaurants sell muscadet by the glass so that was a bonus as it really does go so well with fish!

The brown meringue dessert looked absolutely yummy and I was sorely tempted, but my starter and fish course were more than enough for me to cope with so I'm afraid that I had to decline when the dessert menu was offered to me, although it did take a lot of willpower to say no.

The Riverside Inn is a lovely place to eat and I would definitely recommend it if you are staying in the area and fancy a good meal at a fair price (and particularly if you like fish as that's their speciality). It offers tasty, fresh, locally sourced food, good ambience and it's not at all ostentatious.

The only thing I would suggest is that you book in advance as the restaurant is not huge and it's very popular, and rightly so.

Guess where I'll be eating next time I visit the area - the Riverside Inn of course!

Had a good meal on 20 Oct. My leak & potatoe soup was rather lacking flavour but my wife's pate was fine. My steak and my wife's venison were both good. Vegetables were ok - carrots & broccoli get boring but mashed parsnips with mustard seeds was excellent. Good sized servings, so couldn't manage any dessert. They serve a decent beer, too! The service was well up to standard. Overall, an enjoyable evening and good value.

Me and my girlfriend spent a week down in Boscastle and on the first night had planned to go to the Riverside Restaurant. What a great choice - superb food at reasonable prices, and a great central location. So good we went back for more later on in the week! If you dine here make sure you get an area round the back of the building which overlooks the river, a much nicer setting!

A gem of a restaurant in a great location. Great dinner menu, we were spoiled for choice but opted for gorgeous, delicate fish dishes. I'd advise making a reservation for dinner as the place was heaving & having to turn people away. Excellent value for money.

Eat at the Riverside in July and had a really great meal. Nothing too grand on the menu just high quality food well presented and served by really friendly and helpful staff. The Restaurant is right next to the River Valency and is an idyllic setting. The portions are ample but as I say the food is of a high quality and we will certainly visit again when we are next in Cornwall.

Waterloo Restaurant at the Wellington Hotel, Bosca

I've been going to the Wellington for more than 30 years and the food in the Waterloo Restaurant has always been a delight.
Although the hotel has changed ownership in the last few years, the current owners have actually enhanced the reputation of the cuisine. I visited most recently to celebrate a birthday and was once again rewarded with a very enjoyable meal. Whilst the menu choice may not be extensive, it offers a variety and the fish is always recommended. The choice of wine is always good too, and it is not to expensive and thus offers good value for money. If you can manage your way through to the desserts then they are really most enjoyable and ever so tasty.
The chef has introduced some novel new dishes and they are presented in a refreshing new style which enhances the experience.
Overall, prices are very reasonable for a meal out in such pleasant surroundings and if you have not tried the "Wellie" then you really should do before too much longer.

My wife and I recently dined at the Napoleon Inn where, we were advised, they 'did pretty good food,' This was an understatement in the extreem.
Our pleasure started the moment we walked in. Quite honestly I paused for na moment and thought that this is exactly how a puib should be! The staff were all most cheerful, clearly loved their jobs and had the happy knack of being very pleasant but not personal.
We both had the same starter, garlic mushrooms (a meal in itself), My wife had Wholetail Scampi and I had Sirlion steak - as good as any I've had anywhere at any price. Surfice to say we sampled the fare on the next night. We probably will say when eating out in the future 'why can't the do it like the Napoleon!'

A recent visit to the Waterloo at the Wellington was truly memorable. The dining room is amazing I guess changing rooms do know there stuff. The menu was offered to us while we had drinks on the couch and our server was pleasant and helpful . Didn’t know what to choose from because the accompaniments were so inviting you had a tough choice. Went for smoked eel with crispy crab cake and pickled cucumber and crispy pigs ear. What! PIGS EAR. I figured heck if I don’t like it I can leave it. My old man had the Parfait which was huge and came with home made chutney. It came with bread and perhaps should have had biscuits or toast because the waitress had just brought an amazing board of six different home made breads with local cheddar and herbs and cider and all sorts of nifty stuff. The smoked eel was like any smoked fish nothing scary so im glad I tried it the texture was firm and flaky , the crab cake was super with a golden crust and contorted into a shape that defied gravity, in fact the whole meal looked like I should have framed it. The chef here we were to discover loves extreme presentation. The crispy pigs ear was great, a bit like crackling or scratchings but not greasy, I wished I had another. Oh yeah they sent out a freebie of seared tuna on a hot river stone and rock salt which was a showstopper. The dining rooms is not crammed so even though there were four other couple around us you didn’t notice. The main I chose was fillet with rosemary hash brown, oxtail faggot celeriac puree and veal jus. I picked it because I love steak, I love hash, I love Oxtail, I love well reduced sauces. This was a massive success. So many chefs under cook my medium. This was a nice rosy colour with plenty of moisture a real top piece of beef. The oxtail was flavorsome and falling apart from some long slow cooking. The jus a master class in extracting the most flavour out of some bones and a handful of root veg. The other main course was a baked cod with pearl barley and Cornish coppa ham cassoulet with braised radicchio and parsley oil . The cod he said was brilliant and the barley a different choice which was claimed to be very good. It was tough to turn down the desserts the white chocolate tart with cocoa sorbet and chocolate jus sung to me, but after the steak I was beat. They did let us have a little taste of the sorbet and it was excellent . My guest had an amazing display of strawberries melted fondue of chocolate and a crispy vanilla tuile which he wouldn’t share, so I had to muscle in. Heavenly. Great coffee, great service, ambiance to die for and rooms if you drink too much . We didn’t. Overall one of the best meals in a very very long time.

My wife, son, his partner and I decided to pop to Boscastle after hearing about the flood on the Seaside Parish TV series. It is nice to see that the village is still presented as lovely as it was before with many people enjoying the atmosphere Boscastle has to offer.

After enjoying a casual stroll we headed back stopping off at The Riverside where they offer one of the best seating areas alongside the river. We thoroughly enjoyed some crab open sandwiches – so filling we were unable to fit in the traditional cream tea. However we believed that the following night would be a perfect time to take pleasure in an evening meal. Good portions, clearly evident they pride themselves in quality along with excellent service. This was backed up by some good quality real ales in the Cobweb Inn a few yards up the road.

On a cold and blustery winters day, my wife and I were delighted to find somewhere warm and comfortable in addition to serving some of the best cookery we have had in the Southwest!
