I took my parents, wife and nephew to Odds on Friday 11th May 2012. The unusual entrance and location of Odds is amazing, the overall look and feel and views of this wonderful restaurant is truly spectacular. We received a wonderful welcome and the staff and service throughout was very good indeed. All this and I haven't even got started on the food, its hard to explain how really amazing the quality, presentation and wonderful use of local produce was. Odds is an amazing eating experience, a real gem of a place of great quality. This was a perfect start to our weekend break and somewhere we can't wait to come back to on our next visit. Well-done guys, loving your work ;o) Mark and Family from West Midlands.

AMAZING! We celebrated our wedding at Schooners last wk and we cant put into words what an amazing time we had. The venue was priceless, the food absolutely excellent, but most importantly were Ben, Jess, Hayley & Mark. Every single one of them worked so hard to make sure we had a fab day. Noting AT ALL was too much trouble. You will never find a more memorable venue or more helpful people. They created a very special event for us. Thank you so so much all. X

We searched the internet whilst on our holiday for a nice country restaurant & came across the watermill inn. As soon as we entered the car park we felt the warmth & atmosphere we were greeted so warmly we didn't feel like outcasts & was accomadated very well indeed we had our son with us & even when we asked for smaller portions for him they done this with no fuss or problem the food was lovely worth every penny we all had starters, main & 2 of us had desserts & drinks it was fairly priced we were very happy indeed & if we visit cornwall again or know anyone that is visiting we will definatly recommend the watermill inn.
if there was any faults the only fault I would say was that as the weather warms up & you are eating upstairs the heating needs to be turned down a bit as it gets very very warm other than that sublime!! thank you so much for topping our holiday with a lovely meal!

Blue Haze Restaurant, Helston
Review by Jerzy Graff on 27 April 2012
Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5

Having recently spent a few weeks exploring the Cornwall coastline and
marveling at some of the remarkably unspoilt hideaways still lingering
there, we (my wife Val and I) so enjoyed a most splendid seafood dinner
in Porthleven that we agreed that the restaurant and its
owner-chef-host merited mention to other foodies. The Blue Haze
restaurant and its owner-chef Sat Bajway were a find indeed. The
restaurant is a small converted quay-side cottage, wood shingle white
painted, the inside akin to a 60's café décor for those old enough to
recall, with friendly and unassuming attendant staff. We had spotted
'the place' earlier that day and popped in to check it out, to be
promptly introduced to the owner-chef Sat Bajway who was called from
his kitchen. Sat and our meeting impressed us sufficiently to book for
dinner that evening; the meal will rank highly amongst the best seafood
I have eaten (including… Alaskan crab in South Carolina, black peppered
crab in downtown Singapore, Hong Kong sole in Jimmy’s Kitchen,
langoustines and squid in Sintra, monkfish in New Zealand, lobster and
scallops in Skye. simply to suggest that I am no stranger to seafood ).
Wonderful little place – why not check it out yourself? The attached
snap of unspoilt Porthleven may offer some inducement; the restaurant is the
little white building with gable windows to the right of the church in the
centre of the picture. Bit deceptive since the church stands on the eastern
side of the harbour entrance and the restaurant stands on the opposite western side.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

On our walk form Tintagel to Boscastle we decided that a light lunch and a little drink would be in order, lucky for us we happened upon the Riverside Restaurant and since they have a dog friendly policy we went in for their “Soup and a Sandwich” deal for £6….. there is no way I can compliment the establishment enough on their absolutely delicious soup and sandwich. I had dinner at the Riverside Inn on Saturday 24 March 2012 and I was so impressed by the place that I thought I'd write a review.

When I phoned to book, I mentioned that I would be dining on my own and asked if that would be a problem, but the lady I spoke to assured me that would be fine. That was commendable as it was a Saturday night and some restaurants prefer not to accept bookings for one diner over weekends, so I was very impressed, especially as it's not a large restaurant .

It's not always fun eating out on one's own but I was given a discreet table for two and was well looked after by the friendly staff from the moment I walked in.

I had a starter followed by a fish dish for my main course and both were delicious. The meal was complemented by a glass of nice crisp muscadet. It's not often restaurants sell muscadet by the glass so that was a bonus as it really does go so well with fish!

The brown meringue dessert looked absolutely yummy and I was sorely tempted, but my starter and fish course were more than enough for me to cope with so I'm afraid that I had to decline when the dessert menu was offered to me, although it did take a lot of willpower to say no.

The Riverside Inn is a lovely place to eat and I would definitely recommend it if you are staying in the area and fancy a good meal at a fair price (and particularly if you like fish as that's their speciality). It offers tasty, fresh, locally sourced food, good ambience and it's not at all ostentatious.

The only thing I would suggest is that you book in advance as the restaurant is not huge and it's very popular, and rightly so.

Guess where I'll be eating next time I visit the area - the Riverside Inn of course!

Kota Kai Bar & Kitchen, Helston
Review by Korinna Sjoholm on 10 April 2012
Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5Rating: 5

We just returned from spending 4 days in Porthleven over Easter, and we ate in Kota Kai for 3 of them! The first day we went in for a coffee and decided to stay for some lunch because the view was beautiful from our seats. Coffee was very good, we shared some olives and other small plates and I had a caesar salad which was lovely. We returned the next day with some family and had a full lunch. I had the veggie plate, which was a good mix of choices, my husband had the burger which was well cooked (i.e. not over cooked) and he was very impressed. Between us we also had the thai green curry and the thai mussels which were both described as delicious. I booked again for the following evening as I wanted to try the green curry myself, it smelt amazing. The next evening was horrible weather so I expected the restaurant to be empty, however it was still fully booked and had a good vibe, it’s just as beautiful watching the harbour in sunshine as is it enchanting watching waves break over the gaps. I had my green curry which came with jasmine rice. It was very good; it had a kick to it and was well flavoured. I particularly liked the pea shoots they dressed it with, along with the baby leaf coriander. We also had the fish and chips which wasn’t greasy at all and was a very generous portion and the crab linguini which looked and apparently tasted very good. I would recommend you try the chips, they are really good! Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, it’s a fantastic addition to Porthleven’s restaurant scene and is helping put the village on the culinary map. Very good value too.

We enjoyed some innovative and interesting flavours with alexanders soup & an oyster rissole, but the portions were meagre in relation to the prices, luckily our friends saw the funny side and we made a joke of looking for the promised elements of each dish. The passionfuit mousse was lovely but on our second visit inside a week we were advised that it was not suitable for vegetarians, having already ordered and eaten it once. I was disappointed by the acidic white wine; not good value as I didn't finish my glass - a first I think. Fine selection of rum though. Real ale was very average.

I travelled from York for a holiday in Cornwall, and fell upon this restaurant by chance, and what a splendid find it was. My husband and I visit Greece regularly and to sample some delightful Greek Cuisine in Cornwall was a treat. The waiter or I think possibly the owner, gave us first class service and made our visit very enjoyable. Being a vegetarian I had the Vegetarian Yemista, and it was tasty, and a more than ample portion. My husband being a big meat fan had kleftico, this he said was very tender a dropped of the bone, he had chips and salad. Unfortunately we were too full for a dessert but enjoyed a couple of complimentary ouzo shots after our meal. A good find, a remarkably smart restaurant, excellent service and superb food.

I visited The Real Greek for my birthday last Saturday evening, there was fifteen of us in the party, and the service, food and the whole experience made my birthday one to remember. I ordered the mixed souvlaki, which was lamb, chicken and koftethes grilled, with salad pitta bread and chips, I have a large appetite, but struggled to finish the plate. All the meat was very tender and cooked perfectly. We finished the night of with a few shots of ouzo on the house with the owner, a fun night one i will definitely be repeating.

After holidaying on a regular basis in Greece, it was wonderful to come across this superbly presented Greek Restaurant, the decor is very modern my friend described it to me as the "posh" Greek and it sure lives up to its name. The wine list was extensive and the house wine was truly delightful. We shared a meze platter, which was more than enough for my husband and myself, following my lamb souvlaki, which was tender and mildly spiced. I couldn't manage a dessert but my husband has the baklava with ice cream, which he said was an excellent finish to a very enjoyable meal. We will definitely put this on our favourites list.

OMG Ive just had the most amazing evening ever! Drove up to Carn Brea Castle for an evening meal... As you negotiate the windy bumpy path up towards the Castle all of a sudden the views either side hit you!!!! Its like Fairy Land and the Castle itself is stunning! We were greeted at the door by the owner Mounir Sawalha who showed us up to our table. Mounir made us feel extremely welcome and asked us whether or not we were adventurous in our taste of cuisine to which he was so happy that we said we were. We said we would love to try Jordanian dishes and he did us proud. Stuffed Vine leaves, Pickled baby aubergines and the Hummus ALL made freshly on the premises were mouthwateringly delicious and the Lamb Kebab was to die for!!! Mounir really made us feel welcome and spent quality time with us. We finished the evening with a coffee Jordanian style which was perfect. Both of us cant wait to go again and try more of these delightful dishes and will recommend their cuisine to everyone. Thank you Mounir, Anne & family for a fantastic evening. 5* Chrissy & Mark

Four of us visited Henleys 21/01/12.
The decor and ambiance was perfect and the service was first class. We all had starters and main course which were well cooked and the pork belly was to die for, but, there is always a but,I suppose.
The menu was very limited and as my wife is a veggie, really not much at all and my main course was small and only a bit of sea kelp, gravy, apple and pureed potato. I asked for a bottle of house red and received a nice Shiraz at £14.95, a bit steep for down here. The desert menu was very sparse and no one bothered. We lived in St. Ives, Cornwall for many years and were spoilt with excellent restaurants with reasonable prices. On that score, Henley,s has some way to go, but with a bit more imagination spent on the menu, portions and the prices, I am sure that this could be achievable.
I did mention the desert menu to one of the staff.

My husband and I have just stayed at The Ivory for a long weekend, eating twice in the restaurant, and have to say that both nights we were truly spoiled, with excellent attention from staff, fantastic menu and wine list, lovely homely atmosphere, the chips are to die for. We can't wait to go back for Valentines!!

Lovely meal - we had the meze which was fab. I asked to be told which of the dishes contained fish so that I could avoid them as I dont like fish and the owner made this clear each time. I was pleasantly surprised to be given my own special dish instead of the fish course which was a very nice touch. Would have liked more Stifado as this portion was small compared to the others and it was completely delicious, although there was certainly enough food. A really lovely, memorable meal.

We had a fabulous evening with friends in relaxed surroundings and with some very special food. Would recommend'steak on the stone', cooking itself as you eat and also the piri-piri chicken which was moist and succulant - yum. Couldn't fault a thing on our first visit and would definitely be back!

After discovering this place after driving through Porth for many years, we stopped here and had the most amazing Tapas.
The service was friendly and excellent, the decor and atmosphere is tops, and the prices are very reasonable.
Recommend you try the Rum Mousse cake for dessert!

We have visited this restaurant many times over the years and have always found it to be excellent value with a friendly host and great food. This was our first visit since it has been a Tapas bar but the dishes were all very fresh and tasty and, if only we didn't live so far away, we would be regular visitors! Looking forward to our next visit!

Been to this Tapas Bar Restaurant twice now and both times the meal has been great. A mixture of spanish and Greek/Cypriot dishes which you pick as many or few as you like. A nice relaxed atmosphere and Scrummy Choc and Rum Gateau Dessert. We will definately be back.

We have visited this Tapas bar twice in a week, firstly for the location, over looking the sea and been able to sit outside in the sunshine and eat delicious food. The food is fresh and healthy, no chips in sight, also very reasonably priced. In the past when we have visited Tapas bars the dishes have been so small that you need 6-8 to have a decent meal. I have a feta cheese salad at £4.00 and Moroccan chicken at £4.50 which was very substantial. My husband feasted on the complimentary pitta bread to soak up the lovely garlic olive oil on his king prawns at £5.50 and wonderful meditarrean potatoes at £4.00 plus of course his favourite Choirzo sausage, we came over full with a bill just over £30 including drinks. In this day and age where can you find a great setting with healthy food, that gives you an evening to remember. So I recommend that you visit for yourselves and just relax and chill over a fab meal. For Debbie and Phil offer great service and value for money.

We tried this restaurant because it was close to our hotel and we all enjoy Tapas. Its bigger inside than it looks and the decor is v nicely done with a mediterranean feel but not kitsch. We sampled 8 dishes from the tapas menu (although the main meals did sound tempting!). The food was all great, freshly prepared and v. generous portions allowing us all to try a bit of everything. The chilli king prawns were gorgeous with quite a kick! Soo good we ordered them twice! There was a good choice of wine to choose from and we had a reasonably priced Rioja. Phil who was waiting on was the consummate good waiter, welcoming, patient, helpful, accomodating, and efficient. Great Food, Great Views, Great People. We'll be back.

My wife and I were on a touring trip of Northern Island, Wales and South West England during September 2008 and stayed at a B & B at Porth for 3 nights just up the road from this restaurant.
We ate there on the first night and returned for the other 2 nights as we found that the food, hospitality and prices were excellent.
The decor is fairly basic but who cares when everything else is great. During our 3 visits we tried the Chicken Pesto Tagliatelle, Salmon and Pork Loin Fillets all very nice - hmmm I can almost remember the taste.

Not the most stylish restaurant, but there is something quite unpretentious about this little place with its purple ceiling! Food was nice, service friendly...Yes, I can recommend going there, but don't expect it to be slap bang in the middle of Newquay, cos it aint (£6 each way in a taxi) Still, if you don't want to sit in the middle of hen/stag parties, this is the place to go.

Welcoming, friendly, relaxed bistro, with a lovely simple and fresh menu. Any restaurant that makes the effort to put nut roast on the menu, is a winner in my book! Excellently priced and the Cornish Cream dessert is too die for!! It should be put in a tub and sold next to the Ben and Jerrys. Cornwall in a glass!!Really lovely evening, recommend it.

My wife and I started to dine at the castle nearly 20 years ago back in July 1992. I remember the date very well because it was the first place I took my wife for a meal in our courting days. It remains very special to us because of it's setting, the warm and romantic atmoshpere, the friendliness of Menear & Anne and of course because of the wonderful food. We have truly had many happy evenings there and hope to have many more.
