Cornish Arms at Pendoggett, Port Isaac

We've been here twice now to this traditional pub. Warm and cosy with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. As for the ale - served to the perfect temperature. The Thai food is second to none. We've eaten in the premises and used the take away services. Very traditional food, packed full of flavour. It's become a personal favourite of ours.

After traipsing around Newquay looking for somewhere to eat - we stumbled on The Fort Inn. The menu was very good and the specials board was impressive. The portions were good value for money and the real ale was served to a perfect temperature. The place was spotless with friendly staff. To top it all the views were awesome. We will definitely be back.

i visited the riverbank on three occasions since christmas one for a anniversary meal, one for a family birthday and the other with clients i cannot fault the establishment at all the level og service we recieved on these occasions was second to none. I really enjoyed my food and the way the chef changes the menu weekly and according to what is in season and what is locally avaliable i must admit the level of food i received was like a rossete standard (shame they do not go for some rossettes)i will under no hesistation be visiting there again

Henlys Bar and Restaurant, Helston
Review by tony wright on 23 January 2012
Rating: 3Rating: 3Rating: 3Rating: 3Rating: 3

Four of us visited Henleys 21/01/12.
The decor and ambiance was perfect and the service was first class. We all had starters and main course which were well cooked and the pork belly was to die for, but, there is always a but,I suppose.
The menu was very limited and as my wife is a veggie, really not much at all and my main course was small and only a bit of sea kelp, gravy, apple and pureed potato. I asked for a bottle of house red and received a nice Shiraz at £14.95, a bit steep for down here. The desert menu was very sparse and no one bothered. We lived in St. Ives, Cornwall for many years and were spoilt with excellent restaurants with reasonable prices. On that score, Henley,s has some way to go, but with a bit more imagination spent on the menu, portions and the prices, I am sure that this could be achievable.
I did mention the desert menu to one of the staff.

We have been visiting the Fowey Hotel for about 15 years and in all that time we have found the food to be totally delicious. The menu is varied and we never get fed up with the wide choice. The presentation is also superb. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We have come to think of them as our extended family. We have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant for a wonderful dining experience.

Thanks for the recommendation. Our gamble to book a new years event at this small restaurant (we've never visited before) paid off. What a smashing evening we had. Food was very good, entertainment (Slinky Minskies) was brilliant and the staff were very attentive. At £40 a head it was great value for NYE and was very well organised. Coffee was excellent too. Look forward to visiting again soon and will certainly recommend to friends and family. Great start to 2012!

Lovely meal - we had the meze which was fab. I asked to be told which of the dishes contained fish so that I could avoid them as I dont like fish and the owner made this clear each time. I was pleasantly surprised to be given my own special dish instead of the fish course which was a very nice touch. Would have liked more Stifado as this portion was small compared to the others and it was completely delicious, although there was certainly enough food. A really lovely, memorable meal.

We have visited this Tapas bar twice in a week, firstly for the location, over looking the sea and been able to sit outside in the sunshine and eat delicious food. The food is fresh and healthy, no chips in sight, also very reasonably priced. In the past when we have visited Tapas bars the dishes have been so small that you need 6-8 to have a decent meal. I have a feta cheese salad at £4.00 and Moroccan chicken at £4.50 which was very substantial. My husband feasted on the complimentary pitta bread to soak up the lovely garlic olive oil on his king prawns at £5.50 and wonderful meditarrean potatoes at £4.00 plus of course his favourite Choirzo sausage, we came over full with a bill just over £30 including drinks. In this day and age where can you find a great setting with healthy food, that gives you an evening to remember. So I recommend that you visit for yourselves and just relax and chill over a fab meal. For Debbie and Phil offer great service and value for money.

We tried this restaurant because it was close to our hotel and we all enjoy Tapas. Its bigger inside than it looks and the decor is v nicely done with a mediterranean feel but not kitsch. We sampled 8 dishes from the tapas menu (although the main meals did sound tempting!). The food was all great, freshly prepared and v. generous portions allowing us all to try a bit of everything. The chilli king prawns were gorgeous with quite a kick! Soo good we ordered them twice! There was a good choice of wine to choose from and we had a reasonably priced Rioja. Phil who was waiting on was the consummate good waiter, welcoming, patient, helpful, accomodating, and efficient. Great Food, Great Views, Great People. We'll be back.

We ate there on the first night and returned for the other 2 nights as we found that the food, hospitality and prices were excellent.
The decor is fairly basic but who cares when everything else is great. During our 3 visits we tried the Chicken Pesto Tagliatelle, Salmon and Pork Loin Fillets all very nice - hmmm I can almost remember the taste.

Deserts to die for (had to take mine home though, eyes too big for tummy) Had some meat left over so asked for a doggy back (takeaway container) and not only got our leftovers but some additional slices in the box - our dog was very very happy and a big woof to Mike and Yvonne and their Son. We visit every time we visit Cornwall but there are as many locals as tourists which I always think is a sign of a good resturant.

Me and my partner reqularly visit The Lodge, and generally are wholly satisfied. The food is usually excellent and wholesome, presented stylishly and cooked beautifully. Indeed, we often take visitors there for a meal.

However, there is the odd occasion (Sunday evenings, typically) where the food is quite a way off the usual standard.

Staff are polite and helpful, though those who are used to city-life may find them to be overly chilled out about things...... part of the appeal if you ask me.

The real magic of the Lodge, however, is its view.... perhaps the best on the Cornish Coast.

Myself and my partner come her a lot, whether we are on our own or with friends. The food is of a very good standard and the service is relaxed and friendly, which is all you want in a restaurant. If you are looking for fine dining food and service then it's not your place, however!! If your looking for really good food with lots of local produce, a good choice of menu and a friendly service then this is the place. As a local I know that once upon a time it was a old wharf side building pulled in all the goods shipped in from sea, and with no road out the front, the ship unloaded next to the granite building. The restaurant keeps in touch with the history which I find unique and quirky.

The Ivory is the best restaurant I have eaten at in Cornwall.

The daily menu is indicitive of the attention to detail, exemplary and friendly service and excellence that is evident from the moment you begin the reservation process.

I have visited on a few occasions and never been anything other than extremely impressed. The family run B&B upstiars is modern, well equipped and extremely homely The breakfast is worth waking up for alone!

Evening service is complimented by the lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, the wine list is good but the stand out element is the service and fantastic food. I would love to recommend a certain dish but as the menu changes daily to accomodate the seasonal produce I would just say that whatever you order you wont be disappointed.

I wish I could eat here every night and will be booking in again soon just so I have something to look forward to.

It is hard to pass comment on the quality of the food at the Lugger as we did not even manage to get a table despite the restaurant being only two thirds full and with an hour to go before closing time. Perhaps we did not fit the client demographic that the manageress felt the establishment deserved (our party of five had three children with us). However I did note that the groups of four behind us were easily accommodated, maybe being middle aged helped. After being kept waiting for five minutes with a terse 'I will be with you as soon as I can' to then be told there was no room for a party of five when it was perfectly obvious from the start how many were in our party was, we felt, a little rude. Based on my experience of the attitude towards potential customers I would not recommend The Lugger.

Loads od pitta bread with everything. The olives as a side order were a delight. We paid just under £44 for two (two courses, drinks and coffee plus complimentary Metaxa after we had paid the bill). A delightful evening - we will certainly recommend 'Stavros' to our friends, and return ourselves.

Well, we went for our aniversary, thoroughly enjoyed our selves then and kept saying we must come and try the Sunday lunch, however Sundays were quite busy, but after our first visit, we are now booked in for this coming Sunday, I recommend to book early. We have really started to explor all of the exciting options on the menu, the apetisers we have not yet sampled, as we always go straight into the starters, which are a very good choice and are high on flavour, which keep you satisfied, until the mains arrive, now for someone who has never eaten patte, the pheasent patte, was deliciouse, we try to go every other week, its execptional value for money. We have the beef fillet everytime, the sur charge of £4 is tiny compared to the quality of the meal. You can have one, two or a three course meal, all are very clearly priced. The beef is actually cooked to the specific requirments of the customer, I have proceeded up the ladder,to medium/rare,which is very tasty, as I only ever use to eat well done!!! The standard of service is excellent, from the warm welcome, to the little details, of changing the cuttlery after the orders have been taken, nothing is too much trouble, the decor is fresh and modern, I like the fact you can see the cheffs happily cooking, they constantly have smiles on their faces. The wine is also selected for the food, I highly recommend the Pino gritio,(6)on the wine list, oh and the desserts. I had my very first creme brule, I loved it, but it was agony which to then choose, but you must try the brioche, infact we are naughtily working our way through the selection. We took my relations who were down for a few days and they went for the beef on our recommendation, in fact they had the same as us from the starters to the desserts and the wine, they were highly impressesd, they are down again in April and there was talk of going again. In fact we are this week taking more family, as we have raved about the Ivory for a long time, we will continue to keep sampling the other dishes. Every relative or friend that we go to lunch with or an evening meal gets taken to the Ivory as the evening meal selection is just as percfect, also mainting a very high value service and just the perfect place to visit.

This is truly a lovely place to go if you want to try some Portuguese food or simply miss eating it! They have a nice mix of dishes from various areas of Portugal and Portuguese beer, wine and coffee. In fact, it’s worth going just for the coffee!
Having lived in Portugal for 10 years before moving back to England last year I have very much missed the wonderful cuisine, so to find out there was a Portuguese Restaurant here in Cornwall was very exciting. However, I put of going for quite a while, worried to be let down by some Nando style chicken or something of the sort. I got round to looking up the restaurant on the internet and discovered that it was run by a Portuguese lady and took my boyfriend (who also lived in Portugal and misses it a lot) the next day.
It was a brilliant experience, the restaurant it’s self is very small and informal, more of a café (as the name suggests), by being so, we were instantly transported back to Portugal by the modest décor, SIC (Portuguese channel) on the television and chatting to the owner.
We both had Carne Alentejana, and it tasted exactly as I remember it. For those who aren’t familiar with the dish it consists of small pieces of pork and clams (this is the only way I go near clams! Not a big seafood person) marinated in a rich sauce which I wish I could make! Served with chips, or with square chips mixed in the dish.
The only thing that let me down was that Bolo de Bolacha Maria wasn’t on the menu! Which is my favourite Portuguese dessert.

If you have never tried Portuguese food - or if you have - this small unpretentious restaurant is worth a journey. Don't be put off by its plain appearance or its unglamourous location, the food is simply delicious, reasonably priced and the service is cheerful and friendly. We tried Bacalhau a Braz - cod wih crispy matchstick potatoes, egg and olives, washed down with 'Super Bock' Portuguese lager. The flavours were beautifully balanced and the texture was a inviting balance of soft and crunchy. We also tried Pork Alentejana, pork and clams in a sentational sweet and spicy sauce. This is an absolute 'must try'. Move over Chicken Tikka Massala, this one deserves a regular place in our list of national favourites .

One of the warmest welcomes we have ever received in a restaurant. On holiday with our son and daughter in law with their (very) new baby. We were welcomed into the cosiest part of the bar, and helped to bring in the pram. The menu was great, several classics, but also a special section that allowed you to 'build' your own meal from a selection of ingredients. Everything was freshly cooked, not a frozen chip in sight (the chips were really good!)and the desserts were delicious, again all home made, and different to the usual run of the mill fare. We went back twice and look forward to visiting again when we return to Cornwall. Go and see Mike and Yvonne - you won't be sorry you did !

Our meal was absolutely delicious. Lots of interesting choices on the menu and really large portions. We had Shepherd's Pie and a very hearty panini. Each was presented with imagination and served with delicious accompaniments. The vegetables served with the Pie were so sweet and fresh - corn, snap peas and baby carrots - cooked to perfection. The panini was served with a simple salad of fresh greens and herbs with an amazing dressing. Also had a beet seed cake for a special treat - just delicious - subtle flavors and remarkable texture. Everything was served with great care and elegance. We would highly recommend The Waymaker for a yummy meal in a most beautiful setting.

Having had lunch at Gravy on a couple of occasions, both of which were very fine indeed, we decided to have dinner there on 14 September. As usual, we were given a very warm welcome to this delightful little restaurant.
`
The starter of asparagus spears topped with a poached egg and parmesan shavings was light, simple and astonishingly delicious. Then I had the fillet of sea bream with its interesting and spicy accompaniment of vegetables - superb. My dining partner chose the baked sea bass which she found absolutely scrumptious. No room for pud this time but I can heartily recommend the chocolate pot - I've enjoyed it on previous visits.

The wine is reasonably priced, the presentation of the food second to none and the warm welcome extends throughout the meal. I felt at the end I was leaving old friends.

The meal we orderd was freshly prepaierd and was delightful. I would have no reservations in recomending this fine eatery thank you.

This little treasure is our absolute favourite place to eat out when go to Cornwall. A cosy place with a very friendly atmosphere - the food is excellent with an extensive menu including old favourites and some superb speciality dishes and the service is excellent. Raj, Sunny and the team are always excellent hosts - very friendly and charming - infact are their staff are a joy and nothing is every too much trouble. Every visit has been equally good but my daughter's recent 21st celebrations were outstanding and the staff sang to her and gave her a baileys and also a card and a bottle of wine. These days we book but even if you haven't, they always manage to fit us in if we dont mind having drinks while having a short wait. Wish we lived nearer as it would definitely become a regular haunt - truly outstanding in every way.

Recently called into this cafe with 2 other friends, very good menu plus staff very helpful, the only problem we had was the one the party ordered poach eggs on toast, and could not eat it because of the salt content. We complained and we were not charged for the meal, but it was disappointing that this spoilt the oveall experience. We can only imagine that the eggs had been boiled in salty water? C R Tyson

A little gem of a restaurant. The food is well prepared, delicious and non pretentious and there is a sufficiency on the plate, without being overloaded. The pricing is sensible. A reasonable wine list and local cider & beer are available. The staff are pleasant & attentive even when the restarant is full. While at the Jazz Festival we ate here four times and were not disappointed.

Myself and my wife were looking for somewhere a bit special to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and after a search of local b&b's decided that the Ivory with it's accomodation and bistro would be an ideal place. As it turned out it was perfect. The bedroom was beautifully furnished with lovely matching solid wood wardrobe, bedside tables and table also a kingsize bed to get lost in and a big flat screen tv with all sky chanels. The room was great but the main event was the bathroom, just across the hall was our private bathroom which was the same size as the room with a large shower in the corner with side jets of water and a shower head the size of a dustbin lid, a really refreshing wake up shower for the morning after over indulging in the bistro down stairs. But the real star of the show is the stunning deep free standing bath at the far end of the room where before the beautiful meal downstairs a hot relaxing bath and a glass of something fizzy is a must. The staff and owner couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and accomendating I concluded similarly with my review of the bistro but I can't recomend The Ivory enough, we had a perfect anniversary, thank you.

Myself and my wife recently celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary and were looking for somewhere a bit special to spend the evening. After searching local eateries we decided that the Ivory with it's accomodation would be an ideal venue. It turned out to be the perfect venue, i'll leave the details of the accomodation to a minimum but suffice to say the standard matched the bistro and food. On to the food which is served in a lovely intimate dining room by very friendly, helpful and attentive staff. We stared with Cajun calamari which was beautifully cooked and melted like butter, and tampura battered king prawns with the most refreshing lemongrass and chilli dressing both were supurb. Belly pork with wasabi coleslaw and soy dip which was simply delicious the belly had near perfect crackling with soft succulent meat underneath benifitting from being slow roasted for what must have been hours but the suprise was the coleslaw which had the merest hint of wasabi and in no way over powered any other flavours a brilliant plate of food. Line caught Hake with salmon mousse and a sauce vierge which again was beautiful the hake was perfectly cooked and the salmon mousse was delicately flavoured and melted in the mouth and everything tied together with a lovely buttery and herby sauce. The deserts capped a stunning meal with an Eton Mess and a rich chocolate and hazelnut cake with rum and orange creme fraiche, both lived up to the previous courses with the chocolate cake being almost like a fondont in the middle soft and gooy with the creme fraiche cutting through the richness of the chocolate and hazelnut perfectly, the Eton mess was the best either of us have had with the freshly made meringues marshmellow like in the middle and the fruit as fresh as can be all held together with lovely whipped cream. I can't reccomend The Ivory highly enough all round perfect anniversary thank you

Popped in for lunch on Saturday 13th August and have to say the food was amazing. My husband had potato and rosemary soup as a starter which was delicious. Tempted by the specials, I had the pan fried hake with mussels in a vermouth sauce and my husband had the Thai beef salad. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, the beef fillet just melted in the mouth. Portion sizes were very generous and my husband was given the option of a smaller main as he was also having a starter. After polishing off a couple of desserts and coffee we were expecting the worst when we paid the bill but at around £20 per head we were really pleasantly surprised. The service was exceptional and credit must be given to all for their professionalism and equally friendly manner. I look forward to my next visit.

In fact we loved it so much that we booked for a couple of days later and again the food was excellent. Fish this time, scallops and grey mullet. The staff were very friendly. Everything about this restaurant was great, chairs and tables very comfortable, and the colour scheme very relaxing. Definitely recommended with a capital R!
