Review this restaurant

Set in the Restaurant Quarter of Truro, Amthyst Cafe Bar and Restaurant has taken over a significantly beautiful building in New Bridge Street and the owners have completely refurbished and made it their own.

Convenient for City visitors, shoppers and business people looking for excellent Italian Coffee, Tregothnan Teas, fantastic Cakes and Lunches & Evening meals to die for, Amthyst is a most welcome addition to Truro's eateries.

Amethyst will provide you with fast, efficient and above all friendly service in that all-important informal setting. The menus are wide-ranging offering lots of superbly cooked food - local fish and meat dominate the menus, with stunning vegetarian options to make the mouth water.

Close to the Cinema and The Hall For Cornwall, Amethyst offers a special pre-theatre menu with service to ensure you get to your seats in good time.

There is a full range of exquisite cocktails to choose from and enjoy either before the Clubs beckon or before the full evening dining experience begins.

Further Details

Truro began as a Celtic village. The Normans built a castle by the settlement. The castle stimulated the growth of Truro.

The castle's garrison provided a market for goods made in the settlement and it grew into a town. At some point (the exact date is not known) a market began in Truro. In the mid 12th century the Lord of the Manor granted Truro a charter (a document granting the townspeople certain rights).

Through the centuries Truro was a little port and market town. In the late 18th century and early 19th century it began to grow rapidly.

New streets were built. Bridge Street is named after a new bridge, erected in 1775. Lemon Street is named after a merchant, William Lemon, who built houses in the street at the start of the 19th century.

Truro is the only city in Cornwall. It became a city in 1877 when it was given its own bishop and separated from the diocese of Exeter. The foundation stone of Truro Cathedral was laid in 1880 by Prince Edward (later Edward VII). The cathedral was designed by John Loughborough Pearson (1817-1897).

Truro, due to its size and its architecture, is a great City to explore and when you want that essential rest, Amethyst's staff will be waiting to serve your every need - from Coffee and Tea to Cakes and Cocktails and finally Dinner - what more could anyone ask!
