The original building was used as a small fish cellar and salt house. In 1820 the ground floor area was sold to a local man called Tonkin, and became affectionaly known as Tonkins Cellars. In 1883 it was sold again and converted into the Harbour Sale Auction Room and it continued that way untill 1963, some of the locals remember it well and have fond memories of some the antics on auction day.

In 1963 the lease was bought by St Austell Brewery and in 1997 the Brewery bought the freehold. A year later they purchased the Waterfront Restaurant attached and made the two into one, making it one of the largest floor areas in the Town.

With all the changes, the pub still retains all its charm and character.We are very family orientated, with entertainment for all ages, all major sporting events are live on the big screen, in Sept we have our Music Festival, starting off on Sat 12th, with Jet Harris, the first man to play an electric bass in a UK band with Cliff Richards.
