Review this restaurant

Proprietor: Dominic and Michelle Sadler

Head Chef: Dominic Sadler

This former Sail Loft of some 450 years has plenty of character and rich in history and is now one of Looe`s foremost Restaurants (as seen on BBC 1 & ITV), run by Husband & Wife team Dominic & Michelle Sadler since May 2005, specialising in Local Fish & Seafood as well as a great choice for the meat eaters amongst you.

The menu is based on local produce from the surrounding area using Prime Cornish Beef, Pork & also Freerange Veal from Boccadon Farm just 2 miles away near Lanreath, just to name a few.

One of the oldest buildings in Looe, still largely preserved in its original form, the cellar and loft are known to date back at least 450 years.

Reputed to be a former haunt for smugglers and sea faring men of the 16th Century, it was then known locally as “The Run” probably due to it's time honoured association with smuggling which was rife along the Cornish coast.

Further Details

Fresh Fish is landed on the doorstep as they are merely 20 yards from the Quayside where the Trawlers and netters moor, commanding fantastic views over the harbour making the Harbour View tables very sought after and which need booking well in advance.

As well as a varied menu they also have an extensive wine list from around the world.

So sit back relax, and dine under the character beams of this two storey eaterie and take in the atmosphere and ambience of the building whilst enjoying the flavours of the South West at its best.

During the extensive clearing and renovation work to restore and convert the building to it's present use, many interesting features and relics of the past have been unearthed.

Amongst these were cannonballs, hand made glass bottles and the very old fireplace, today fired by more modern methods! In the restoration of parts of the original thick “cobb” walls, nooks, and crannies revealed a fascinating mixture of old bones, sea and nutshells.

Good authority has since established that these were very often incorporated in the structure of buildings of the period in an effort to satisfy local superstition in warding off evil spirits. These were embedded in the wall and were revealed by chance by a previous owner upon finding loose stones covering the “hideaway”.
